Go to your calculus class

You came back from your first English literature class, happy to have met Andre Tagarski and Annie, and go eat in the cafeteria thinking about your next class.

You always had trouble with math, to the point where you needed a private tutor in junior high. In retrospect, you can't complain, she was hot! Sarah helped form your tastes in women but still, for a guy who is doing a science base curriculum it's rather shameful for you.

Trigonometry was your nightmare which puzzled you because geometry was your strongest subject. You do have a remedial class on Thursdays so perhaps with more resources you'll get that subject.

But then, in your senior year, calculus was added to the curriculum. The teacher kind of scared all of you, saying that it was one of the most complicated math subjects dealing with a lot of notation and conversions!

You had nightmares that night, thinking of yet another math subject that you would need professional help but, knowing full well that by then, your parents had pretty much given up on parenting so any resources you would need would require you to find on your own.

So, tired of being unable to properly sleep, you watched YouTube videos about it. And read articles. In the morning, you were exhausted but, you discovered that calculus... made sense!

Trigonometry is math on triangles but looks nothing like geometry. Oh, sure, it's based on Pythagoras but it's far removed.

Calculus on the other hand, looked nothing like geometry, but it felt like it!

You came back to your room after eating to grab your calculus notes from high school. Perhaps you should have brought them when going to English lit? Bah, you need the exercise anyway: you used to ride on your bike all summer long and you couldn't bring your bike to the campus.

Brody isn't in your room, so you drop your English literature material, grab your calculus notebook from high school and walk back to the elevator.

The door begins to close but two guys get in, forcing the door to open.

"There isn't even a fucking teach listed", says the African American

"Maybe one wasn't assigned when we printed the schedule", replies the white heavy muscular beefcake.

Both smell a little of marijuana and you realize that you have seen them before. They are roommates 2 doors down the corridor toward the kitchenette. You've never spoken to either of them, but you've nodded when crossing them in the corridor.

On the 2nd floor, a girl you've never seen gets in... slowly.

"Why are we taking calculus again?", asks the beefcake

"You need it for your next semester. It's a prerequisite. I need it for next year but thought we could take to together", replies the African American.

You decide to speak up. "Calculus in McKinsey 235, in 20 minutes?", you ask.

Both guys turn toward you as the doors open on the 1st floor.

"Yeah", replies the African American.

You all exit, the two guys, the girl and you. The three of you quickly leave her behind, going in the same direction.

"I am taking it as well. I'm Allan", you say, offering your hand.

"Wilson", says the African American. "This is Hugh", he says, pointing to this roommate. "You are Brody's roommate, right?"

"Yeah. Nice to meet you both", you say, as you are all walking to Faulkner.

"I've never seen you around campus before, what are you studying?", Wilson asks.

"Oh, I am a freshman in a custom science major", you reply.

Hugh comments. "I thought our section was for sophomores?"

"That's what Brody told me. I guess they made a mistake", you comment.

"Oh, well, I am happy they did. We'll be able to study together sometimes and trade notes", Wilson says."I can't wait to see what calculus is!"

"I can. I didn't need another new type of math in my life. I mean, I want to be a physiotherapist, why would I need calculus?", says Hugh.

"Wait, you haven't taken calculus in high school?", you ask.

"No, did you?", Wilson replies.

"I did, and I kind of did well.", you say, proudly.

"Oh, we will definitely become good friends Allan. Stick with us if you want to have fun", Wilson says.

"Wilson, he has Brody has a roommate.", says Hugh.

"Oh, right. But we have pot, he doesn't", Wilson adds.

You arrived in McKinsey by then and learned on the walk to the classroom that Wilson did his first year in Administration, but upon learning that most people would then get an MBA after that, he switched to Accounting this year.

"Fortunately, a lot of my first year classes can be credited so if I take a few summer classes, I should be able to finish in my original 4 years", he had commented.

When you get into the classroom, you spot four girls... in sports clothes laughing and discussing

"Sweet, Brittany is in the class", whisper Wilson to Hugh.

"Your Brittany?", Hugh replies, stunned.

But Wilson goes to the tall busty blonde that seems to be in the middle of the conversation.

"Hey", he just says. Brittany smiles and greets Wilson with excitement. "There you are! Girls, that's Wilson!"

The Asian girl of the group seems excited to meet him, but the African American girl remains quiet. The fourth girl, the brunette however, only seems to have eyes for Hugh.

"So girls, this is Hugh my roommate, and that's Allan from my section. Guys, this is my good friend Brittany. We met at a mixer last week-end."

"Nice to meet you all. Here is Miki", she says, pointing to the Asian girl, "that's Qwanisha and at the end there is Rose"

Miki offers her hand to Wilson, and Rose to Hugh, but none of the girls seems interested in you.
