Hear Cathy and her band argue in the Cafeteria

You go to the main cafeteria to hang out and eat some fries while reading some of your class material.

In the afternoon, it tends to be unoccupied so it's perfect for you.

A group of four girls are arguing furiously and since most of them are cute, you decide to sit close enough to follow the conversation.

"She is a jerk. A complete and utter jerk", says the only blonde

The white girl with the dread raises the tone.

"She is our friend. Don't you fucking insult her, Daniella"

The one with the glasses intervenes.

"No need to swear, Cathy, but she did let us down", she says.

"No need to swear... Melanie over there has a hard time speaking without swearing! Don't you point your finger at me, Wendy"

So now, you know the name of all four girls. Cathy with the dreads, Wendy With the glasses, Daniella the blonde and Melanie with the metal t-shirt.

"Don't you bring me into this", says Melanie.

"Yeah, and she swears in French. It's cute, not vulgar...", says Wendy.

"Oh, it's Vulgar all right... just not to you gals", adds Melanie.

"Can we stay on point, please? We need a fucking bassist", says Cathy.

You raise your ears. You are a bassist! That's right! You even brought your bass to college.

You think back... your parents insisted you learn a musical instrument and everyone learned the piano or the guitar so you picked the bass. Why not? It sounds awesome and it felt easy to learn. Well, easier than the others...

But then, you began loving it and you got a second bass, the one your brought to college, and you even played for a few bands to help them out. You never formed a band or really been in one but you played half a dozen shows over the years.

"Not a fucking Bassist", replies Wendy. "A good bassist. We don't need just anyone, we need a good one. We have regular gigs and people count on us"

"We are a cover band!", says Melanie.

"Yeah, it's not like we'll ever chart", says Daniella

"Wait, I didn't say we couldn't do our own material just that we do not right now", adds Melanie.

"Ok, you are both right. Right now, we are a cover band. But that's in part because of Linda. She refused to branch out because it would impact her studies, and she fucking dropped us", says Cathy

"Then let's get another bassist!", says Melanie.

"No, let's stay a quartet", says Wendy. "I can play the bass parts on my keyboard"

Oh, so Wendy is the keyboard player.

"You play the piano parts and the sound sequencer already.", says Cathy.

"Yeah, I don't like the idea of changing the number of group members. We were five, we'll be five", says Daniella

"I already spoke to all the bassist in the music major. None of them are interested", says Cathy

"Did you ask nicely or did you swear at them?", snaps Wendy.

"I fucking threatened them with a knife, is that what you want to hear? I can be civil when I want to", says Cathy.

Oh, that's a feisty one.

"Too bad I barely know anyone here", adds Melanie.

"And I don't know any music students", adds Daniella

"Hey, what about me?", says Wendy.

"I mean apart from you...", Daniella adds.

"I think we need to branch out. Go outside our social circles. There must be a bass player somewhere on campus that we don't know yet and who would be willing to play with us"
