Decide to go meet Evelyn

Across the hall from Monika and Haily is Kim, who is dating Scott, and her roommate Maxine, which you seldom see, is gay. You heard Kim mention it.

Opposite your room are Teagan and Melody...yuck. Just, no. Both are so stupid, dumb and annoying. Just. No.

And that leaves only three girls! Gloria is a very religious girl who tries to get people to take a virginity pledge and who only believe in marriage. Too complex.

You don't know that her roommate's deal is, Leah, but she is almost like a wallflower. Doesn't talk to anyone, avoids everyone.

And that leaves your neighbor, opposite Monika and Haily: Evelyn.

There are a few things that you noticed about her.

First, she is always in a good mood. Second, her roommate never showed up, but she had a bird in her room! A freaking bird, in a cage.

You used to sometimes hear it sing, almost in panic when Evelyn wasn't there, but it became quieter. You saw it twice, when the door was open and Evelyn was talking to Teagan on the first occasion and to Rachel on the other. Sometimes, in the evening, when you are trying to sleep and the whole section is quiet, you can hear Evelyn whisper to her bird, telling her that everything will be all right.

Perhaps Evelyn is saying that to reassure herself, and well, ease away anxiety?

Third, she almost always wears red. It's odd, but fun.

She has a few knitted shirts, all red, all the same, exact red, and often wears this old-time felt hat.

She has multiple rings on her fingers, and bracelets on her wrists. Both vary from day to day. You seem to see the hint of a tattoo on her left arm, but she is never in short sleeves.

The oddest is that she doesn't mind wearing short skirts with cute stockings, but never shows her arms.

But her smile... her smiles cuts through the room and illuminates the building. When she looks at you, you feel... almost like your knees will give, like her gaze is peeking into your soul.

You can hear Evelyn, right now, singing in her room. You also hear lightly hear her footstep, and you think that she is dancing!

She mumbles the lyrics, but you know the song: Sunday Morning, by the band, No Doubt.

As you listen, she seems to try to catch up to lyrics, so she is listening to it on her earphones, and singing along.

Her voice is sweet and almost... fruity? It's hard to describe, but it's nice. Really nice.

You look at yourself, to make sure you look good, and decide that it's time. At worst, she'll say no, right?

At best, you'll get close to a cool girl you hope to date, and at worst, well. Your neighbor might hate you, but surely, you can both be adults, right?

But in all cases, you'll get some experience with a girl, which doesn't hurt.

So, you leave your room, lock the door, and bump into Teagan, who has a sealed bag of flour.

"Hey jerk, don't do it. I ask you, don't"

"What are you talking about, Teagan?"

"You won't listen to me, right?"

"I have no idea what you mean"

"Don't bother Evelyn. If you want to fool around with a girl, choose me. "

"You said you would knee me in the balls"

She laughs. "Sure, but then, you might have a good time. Better than Evelyn, I can tell you that"

But what does Teagan know? She thinks you want her in jail for having had sex with an adult as a minor, when you said that maybe he should, since it's pretty much pedophilia.

Since then, she keeps saying that you want her in jail, not understanding that she was a victim.

But Melody, from the Kitchen, calls on Teagan.

"Fine, do what you want. You want me in jail anyway, why should I care!", she says, leaving for the kitchen.

There. She mentions it again.

She leaves, so you get to Evelyn's room. During the altercation, silence returned to Evelyn's rooms: you no longer hear her singing.

You gently knock on the door, and get no reaction. You wait a few seconds, and panic sets in.

If she heard you and didn't want to answer and knock again, it will create frustration in her.

If she didn't hear you and you don't knock again, you will not be able to see her.

You sigh and knock a little louder, which prompts a reaction.

The door opens, and Evelyn answers, with a slight smile. She notices you and smiles wider. She is wearing one of her red sweaters, and at the bottom, a short leather skirt with stockings. To be noted, she doesn't have her hat on, but you see it on the desk behind her.

There are candles lighted in her room, and the light is turned off, creating a weird but intimate mood.

"Hey... Allan? It's Allan, right?"

"Right! I was wondering, Evelyn, if you would have some time to talk?"

"About what?", she says, moving a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Well, anything, really. We are neighbors, and I thought maybe we should get know each other"

"Why?", she asks, confused

"Well, maybe I would like to know you better?"

She sighs. That's not a good sign, but then, she moves away from her door and welcomes you in.
